Story
Ryan Leveille was born in Dahlonega, Georgia and at the age of 15 he began pursuing a career as a professional in-line skater. This led to his involvement in speed skating and his eventual participation in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. In the years following his retirement from professional sports he has earned numerous undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Georgia and the Savannah College of Art and Design. He worked in UX design strategy for the Fortune 100s and award-winning cross-functional innovation teams for the Fortune 10s. It’s obvious by his accolades that Ryan doesn't stay in one place for long. He needed a brand for his personal work that wasn't tied to a company connection. He wanted a logo and design system that communicated the diversity of his skill set and his unique personality.
Design
We decided to honor Ryan’s dynamic qualities and also pay homage to his Olympic past in Italy by referencing the Roman god Janus. This god represents the middle ground between both concrete and abstract dualities such as life/death, beginning/end, youth/adulthood, and rural/urban. This depiction of Janis was a perfect metaphor for Ryan’s talents. The uniqueness of this image would be a great talking point for him at any interview or networking event. We drew color inspiration from the navy skating suits and the Team USA gear from the 2006 Winter Olympics.
